"Think all the Korean soaps are about amnesia, tangled family relations, or Cinderellas?  Hee Kyung No is one of the writers who can prove you wrong, and this mini-series is by far her best work ever. As is always the case for No, there is no antagonist devised for a simple plot development. She has a gift of making both hard-to-find-in-real-life characters and more realistic ones equally come alive, having all the characters really grow on you. What they say to each other and to oneself is, again like No's signature, completely poignant line by line. (Acting too is superbly done by all the cast.) Unarguably a breakthrough in Korean TV series, it will instantly sweep away those who got sick of simplistic and shallow soap-making. Yes, "Lie" is almost too good to be true."
